Paris 2024 Olympics Qualifications Review as of 31 October 2023

Badminton event making its 9th edition to be competed in the Olympics Games at Paris 2024.

The Qualification period started 1 May 2023 until 30 April 2024.

A Total Numbers of 172 players will be qualify for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

Those numbers will be divided into 5 categories :

38 Men's Singles

38 Women's Singles

16 Men's Doubles pair

16 Women's Doubles pair

16 Mixed Doubles pair


As of 31 October 2023, 5 months after the Olympic Qualification period starts, here are some updates in each categories : =


Men's Singles.

  1. Kodai Naraoka (Japan)

  2. Viktor Axelsen (Denmark)

  3. Li Shi Feng (China)

  4. Shi Yu Qi (China)

  5. Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (Indonesia)

  6. Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand)

  7. H.S. Prannoy (India)

  8. Jonatan Christie (Indonesia)

  9. Lee Zii Jia (Malaysia)

  10. Anders Antonsen (Denmark)

Surprisingly, The current Tokyo Olympics Champion, Viktor Axelsen from Denmark was not ranked number 1 in this list. Instead, it was the Japanese Koda Naraoka top the ranking at this moment.


Based on the latest released ranking, we can safely make an assumption that the following countries may have a maximum of 2 players to qualify for Paris 2024 : namely : China, Indonesia, Denmark.


Japan may also utilized the 2 spots , if Kenta Nishimoto make the cut to be ranked within the Top 16, This may also happened for Malaysia and India if both of their top 2 players - Lee Zii Jia + Ng Tze Yong & Prannoy + Laksha Sen managed their steady performance throughout the whole Olympics Qualification periods.

  4. Tai Tzu Ying (Chinese Taipei)

  5. He Bing Jiao (China)

  9. P.V. Sindhu (India)

  10. Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand)

China Continues their total supremacy in this categories as they currently have 5 players ranked among the Top 16.

The Big 4 who consistently ranked in the Top 4 will be the undisputed favorites for the Olympic Medals.

  3. Seo Seung Jae + Kang Min Hyuk (Korea)

  4. Wang Chang + Liang Wei Keng (China)

  5. Takuro Hoki + Yugo Kobayashi (Japan)

  6. Chiraj Shetty + Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (India)

  7. Fajar Alfian + Mohammad Rian Ardianto (Indonesia)

  8. Lee Yang + Wang Chi Lin (Chinese Taipei)

  9. Liu Yu Chen + Ou Xuan Yi (China)

  10. Mohammad Shohibul Fikri + Bagas Maulana (Indonesia)

One of the most competitive category, You'll never know for now which pairs will be qualified for the Paris 2024.


Interestingly, The current Top 8 rank pair was from ALL the different countries.


The veteran Danes who won 5 titles this season, including the European Games which also offers the Olympics Qualification Ranking points, top the latest release list .


Indonesia, the Traditional power house in Men's Doubles category should have not much problem to secure a slot in the Olympics.


Even though China is the only country who have 2 pairs in the Top 10, it might not guaranteed them to fully used up the 2 pairs per country Quota.

Women's doubles

  1. Chen Qing Chen + Jia Yi Fan (China)

  2. Baek Ha Na + Lee So Hee (Korea)

  3. Kim So Yeong + Kong Hee Yong (Korea)

  4. Chiharu Shida + Nami Matsuyama (Japan)

  5. Mayu Matsumoto + Wakana Nagahara (Japan)

  6. Yuki Fukushima + Sayaka Hirota (Japan)

  7. Apriyani Rahayu + Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti (Indonesia)

  8. Jongkolphan Kititharakul + Rawinda Prajonhjai (Thailand)

  9. Zhang Shu Xian + Zheng Yu (China)

  10. Liu Sheng Shu + Tan Ning (China)

Japan Top the list with 3 pairs ranked inside the Top 8 bracket. Barring any upsets, they will be having maximum 2 pairs to Qualify for the Olympics.


Based on the recent Tournament results, China, alongside with Korea, should be able to occupy the 2 allocated pairs listed in the Top 8.

Mixed Doubles

  1. Zheng Si Wei + Huang Ya Qiong (China)

  2. Yuta Watanabe + Arisa Higashino (Japan)

  3. Feng Yan Zhe + Huang Dong Ping (China)

  4. Seo Seung Jae + Chae Yu Jung (Korea)

  5. Dechapol Puavaranukroh + Sapsiree Taerattanachai (Thailand)

  6. Jiang Zhen Bang + Wei Ya Xin (China)

  7. Chen Tang Jie + Toh Ee Wei (Malaysia)

  8. Mathias Christiansen + Alexandra Boje (Denmark)

  9. Kim Won Ho + Jeung Na Eun (Korea)

  10. Tang Chun Mun + Tse Ying Suet (Hong Kong)

The last places of the Big 4 which was originally held by the Thai pair, was replaced by the reigning World Champion from Korea.


It is safe to say, at least for the moment, the Big 4 will be Qualified for the Olympics.


As for now, China with 3 pairs ranked inside the Top 10, will be guaranteed to secure the 2 spots.
